Anschutz And Plucinski Named LMC's Hitter And Pitcher Of The Week
April 20, 2004
Brett Anschutz, a sophomore utility player from Baileys
Harbor, WI (Gibraltar High School) and Steve Plucinski, a junior pitcher from
Mundelein, IL (Mundelein High School) were respectively named the Lake Michigan
Conference's Hitter and Pitcher of the Week for April 12th to the 18th.
Anschutz went 12 for 30 at the plate for a .400 average last week. In the Muskies
nine games, he compiled 15 RBIs, 8 runs, 2 doubles and 3 homeruns. Anschutzs
best performance came in the last game of the week when he went 3 for 5, with
7 RBIs, and 2 HRs, one of which was a grand slam, against Lawrence University.
Anschutz won the award over several players including Muskie teammate Tyler Schmitt,
who also had a big week for Lakeland.
Plucinski accumulated a 1-1 record in two starts on the mound last week with
a 1.38 ERA. The ace had two 14-strikeout games versus UW-Stevens Point and Concordia
University, respectively. In the loss versus Point, he allowed just 6 hits,
and one earned run, while walking just one batter in six innings. Versus LMC
foe Concordia, he allowed just 3 hits and one earned run, walking just one batter
again, in the 3-1 complete game win. Opponents hit just .188 while facing Plucinski.
Plucinski shared the honors with Edgewood's Dave Scheidel.
The Muskies are 17-15 overall and a league best 11-1 in the LMC.
