Aaron Aanonsen enters his second season as head men’s basketball coach at Lakeland.
As the Muskies’ top assistant from 2006-08, Aanonsen brings a high level of familiarity with Lakeland athletics to the position, as well as a wealth of basketball coaching experience.
In addition to on-court coaching duties, Aanonsen also directed several other critical functions as a Lakeland assistant, including recruiting coordinator, academic coordinator, director of the Muskies’ summer basketball camp and manager of the program’s budget.
With Aanonsen’s help, the Muskies posted a combined overall record of 33-22 for the past two years, including a thrilling run last season to the Northern Athletic Conference Tournament championship, in which the Muskies knocked off the conference’s top three seeds on the road, all in overtime.
A native of central Wisconsin, Aanonsen has also served as head men’s golf coach and as a fitness studies instructor in addition to his men’s basketball coaching duties. He will continue to serve as an instructor this year.
Prior to arriving at Lakeland in 2006, Aanonsen was the second assistant at Minnesota State University Moorhead, where he worked under head coach Stu Engen. While at Minnesota State, Aanonsen was in charge of high school recruiting throughout the Midwest, NCAA compliance, team travel, overall activity budget, academic coordination, film breakdown and post player development. The Dragons finished 16-12 during his tenure, and he helped coach three all-conference players.
Before Aanonsen began his coaching career, he played basketball at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, and was elected team captain as a senior in 2004-05. He graduated with highest honors with a bachelor’s degree in exercise and sport science-sport management.
Aanonsen earned his master’s degree in educational leadership-activities management from Minnesota State University Moorhead in 2007.
He and his wife, Brye, reside in Howards Grove and are the parents of one daughter, Ambryn. Brye is a member of Lakeland’s admissions staff.

Tyler Bormann enters his second season on the Lakeland staff after spending two seasons on the Augustana College (SD) men’s basketball coaching staff as a graduate assistant coach. Bormann assisted with all facets of operating a successful Division II program including opponent scouting, on-floor coaching, and recruiting.
Bormann played a key role in helping the Vikings return to the NCAA Tournament. In 2007-08, the Vikings posted a 22-9 overall record, the program’s first 20-win season in nearly 20 years. Augustana finished second in the North Central Conference regular season standings and advanced to the NCAA Regional Championships for the first time since the 1988-89 season. At regionals, Augustana reached the semifinals after defeating NCC champion Minnesota State University, Mankato, in the opening round.
Bormann came to Augustana after spending three seasons coaching high school basketball in Minnesota. He served as the assistant varsity boys basketball coach and junior varsity coach at Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton High School in Glyndon, Minn. In the 2003-04 season, he helped lead the team to the Section 8AA championship and its first-ever Class 2A state tournament appearance. At state, DGF finished in third place. In all, DGF posted 20-plus wins during all three seasons Bormann was on the coaching staff.
In addition to his high school coaching experience, Bormann has worked and coached at numerous camps. Most notably, he was a coach at Bill Self’s University of Kansas Basketball Camp.
During the summer of 2007, Bormann coached the 16-and-under and 17-and-under AAU select boys basketball teams with the ECI program in Wahpeton, N.D.
A Detroit Lakes, Minn., native, Bormann was a member of the men’s golf team while earning a bachelor’s degree in biology and education with a coaching endorsement from Concordia College-Moorhead in 2006. Bormann completed his master’s degree from Augustana College (SD) in 2008. He and his wife, Cheryl, were married in 2007 and reside in Sheboygan.

Kris Saiberlich enters his second season as graduate assistant for the Lakeland men’s basketball team.
A Fond du Lac native, Saiberlich completed a standout four-year career at Lakeland in 2008. As a four-time first-team all-conference selection, Saiberlich will go down as one of the finest players in Lakeland’s long basketball history.
In his final season, Saiberlich led the Muskies to a Northern Athletics Conference Tournament championship, capping off a season in which he led the team in scoring at 18.0 points per game. Saiberlich, who played in 106 games in his four-year career, starting 104, finished with 1,494 points, good for ninth on Lakeland’s all-time scoring list.
He is one of the best free throw shooters in Lakeland history. He made 89 of 95 free throws his senior season, and that 93.7 percent clip is the best single-season percentage in school history. He graduated with the first, third and sixth best free throw percentages in a season.
He also closed his career as one of the program’s best 3-point shooters. He made 110 3-point field goals as a senior, and finished his career with 324 3-pointers, which are both school records.
