Lakeland Outlasts Maranatha In 2 Overtimes
Feb. 14, 2004
In games like these, the team that comes out on top is the team that can be
most consistent. The Lakeland College Men's Basketball Team fit that bill on
Valentine's Day with an 82-78 double overtime victory over the host Maranatha
Crusaders.
Cory Nickel scored a team-high 22 points and was just one assist away from a double-double. Nick Zeck had a double-double himself with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Ryan Hiir and Danny Jansson also scored in double digits for the Muskies with 16 and 15 points, respectively, while Nick Howard came off the bench to score 10 points and grab eight boards.
For the Crusaders, Jim Bonner scored a game-high 25 points, while Eddie Washetas sunk 18 points.
The two teams shot almost identically until the two overtimes, when the Muskies came through with 46 percent shooting, while holding Maranatha to 33 percent.
The win clinched third place in conference for the Muskies (12-12, 7-4), while
the Crusaders dropped to 9-12 overall and 3-9 in conference.
