Muskies Go Up Early, Then Put Things on "Cruz" Control
Dec. 12, 2003

The Wehr Center hasn't seen this much energy since last season. A fiery second half by the Lakeland College men's basketball team sent the Muskies to an 84-51 victory over Northland Baptist Bible College on Friday, December 12.

The Muskies led 38-21 at half, but even with the big lead, the excitement was just getting started for the team. Floyd Cruz came off the bench for Lakeland and scored 18 points, a team-high, in the final 11 minutes of the game. Cruz immediately made an impact, slamming home a rim-shattering, two-handed jam off of a behind the back dish from Logan Heine and a dazzling alley-oop from Terrance Doss. Cruz also pulled down six rebounds in those 11 minutes.

Cory Nickel scored 16 points and had four steals for the Muskies, while Terrance Doss pitched in 11 points.

Drew Scott led the Pioneers with 17 points, and Bob Gibler added 10 points and eight boards in the losing effort.

Overall, the Muskies shot 51.7 percent from the field and 44 percent from three point range. They also dominated the boards, out-rebounding Northland 40-25.

Lakeland's next game is Saturday, December 13 at home against Benedictine University at 3 p.m.
