Men Play For Fifth Place After Second Round Victory
Dec. 29, 2003
The Lakeland College Men's Basketball Team won their second round game at the
Clarke College Holiday Basketball Tournament with an 83-75 victory over Purdue-North
Central. The Muskies will now play for fifth place against DePauw, a team Lakeland
fell to earlier this year.
Lakeland (5-7) jumped out to a 36-29 lead at half but were challenged in the second half and outscored Purdue-North Central just 47-46 for the final margin.
The Muskie bench was the key to the game as they outscored PNC's bench 38-19. Lakeland was led by Nick Zeck with 17 points and 7 boards, while Ricky Davis added 16 points and Ryan Hiir 13 points. Cory Nickel led Lakeland with 7 assists.
Lakeland hit only 5 of 19 three-pointers but made up for it with a solid 18 of 23 effort from the free throw line while PNC made 28 of 36 free throws.
The Muskie will play on Tuesday at 3:45p.m against DePauw, who they lost to
in the season opener 79-77.
