Tyler Bormann enters his second season as head men’s golf coach at Lakeland. He also serves as an assistant men's basketball coach.

Bormann, who was a four-year member of the men’s golf team as an undergraduate at Concordia College-Moorhead until 2006, joins the Lakeland staff after spending the past two seasons as a graduate assistant coach on the Augustana College (S.D.) men’s basketball coaching staff. Bormann assisted with all facets of operating a successful Division II program including opponent scouting, on-floor coaching, and recruiting.

Bormann played a key role in helping the Vikings return to the NCAA Tournament. In 2007-08, the Vikings posted a 22-9 overall record, the program’s first 20-win season in nearly 20 years. Augustana finished second in the North Central Conference regular season standings and advanced to the NCAA Regional Championships for the first time since the 1988-89 season. At regionals, Augustana reached the semifinals after defeating NCC champion Minnesota State University, Mankato, in the opening round.

Bormann came to Augustana after spending three seasons coaching high school basketball in Minnesota. He served as the assistant varsity boys basketball coach and junior varsity coach at Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton High School in Glyndon, Minn. In the 2003-04 season, he helped lead the team to the Section 8AA championship and its first-ever Class 2A state tournament appearance. At state, DGF finished in third place. In all, DGF posted 20-plus wins during all three seasons Bormann was on the coaching staff.

In addition to his high school coaching experience, Bormann has worked and coached at numerous camps. Most notably, he was a coach at Bill Self’s University of Kansas Basketball Camp.

During the summer of 2007, Bormann coached the 16-and-under and 17-and-under AAU select boys basketball teams with the ECI program in Wahpeton, N.D.

A Detroit Lakes, Minn., native, Bormann earned a bachelor’s degree in biology and education with a coaching endorsement from Concordia College-Moorhead in 2006. Bormann completed his master’s degree from Augustana College (S.D.) in 2008. He and his wife, Cheryl, were married in 2007 and reside in Sheboygan.
