David Madsen

David Madsen
Head Coach

David Madsen enters his fourth year as men's and women's soccer coach at Lakeland.

In three seasons as head coach of the Muskies, Madsen has led the women’s team to a 27-29-1 combined overall record, including a 19-15-1 mark in the Northern Athletics Conference. The women finished in fifth place in 2006, Madsen’s first season as head coach, with a 7-3-1 conference record. In 2008, the men's team posted its first winning overall record since 1994, including an undefeated 4-0-2 mark at home.

A standout goalkeeper and four-year starter for UW-Whitewater, Madsen helped lead UWW to three NCAA tournament appearances in 1999, 2001 and 2002. He was also an All-Region performer in 2002 and compiled a career goals against average of 0.92 in 59 games.

After graduating from Whitewater in 2003 with a bachelor's degree in business, Madsen stayed connected to his alma mater by serving as an assistant coach for the men's and women's soccer programs for three seasons, while also pursuing his master's degree.

In high school, Madsen was an all-conference performer at Brookfield East (Wis.) High School, helping lead the 1997 team to a WIAA Division I state championship. He also played for Milwaukee Kickers Nationals/F.C. Milwaukee and was part of teams that won five straight club state championships.

Currently, Madsen plays competitively with the Milwaukee Kickers Majors team and stepped in as interim coach for the club last spring. He earned his master's degree in curriculum and instruction in 2005, is a member of the NSCAA and currently holds his National "C" License from the USSF.

Sam Schroeder
Assistant Coach

Sam Schroeder returns to Lakeland for his second season as a graduate assistant for the men's soccer team.

Schroeder, who served as a student assistant coach in 2007, capped off his collegiate soccer career at Lakeland in 2006 as one of the squad's co-captains. Although he struggled with injuries that limited him to five games, his knowledge of the game was still a major asset to the team.

Schroeder will also be the head girls' soccer coach at Plymouth High School in the spring.

A native of Monticello, Minn., Schroeder graduated from Lakeland with a bachelor’s in history and education in 2008. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in education.
