March 24, 2004

Lakeland men's soccer coach Marc Colwell announced that two Madison area recruits will attend Lakeland College and will join the Muskies this fall. Madison LaFollete high school seniors Tom Claas and Ryan Condon have both committed to play soccer at Lakeland College.

Tom Claas was the starting sweeper and co-captain on the LaFollette team as a senior. He was named a 1st Team All-City and 2nd Team All Big Eight Conference selection. For his efforts, Claas was recognized as Team Co-MVP. During his junior season Claas was a starting forward on a 14-8 team that advanced to the 2nd Round of Regionals. Claas plays club soccer for the Madison Extreme Premier Soccer Club.

"Tom is a very versatile player that can play a number of positions. He has played sweeper, forward, and midfield in high school and club," Colwell said. "Tom is a composed and technical player that can step in and help us right away."

Defender Ryan Condon started as an outside back for Madison LaFollette and received the Coach's Leadership award as a senior. Condon was named the team's Most Improved Player as a sophomore. He played club soccer along with Claas on Madison Extreme Premier Soccer Club. Condon played varsity basketball for two years and is a black belt in karate.

"Ryan has size and is a strong defender. He should give us some depth in the back," Colwell said. "He also has the ability to get forward into the attacking half."
