Muskie Men Fall to 22nd Ranked UW Oshkosh
August 31, 2003

Sheboygan, WI- On a hazy, cool Sunday afternoon the Lakeland College Men's Soccer team battled to a hard fought 3-0 loss to the Titans of the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh.

The game began very promisingly as both teams seemed determined to get forward. In the 23rd minute Wisconsin Oshkosh caught a break as they got on the board on an own goal by the Muskies. The score would remain 1-0 going into the 2nd frame.

Wisconsin Oshkosh caught another break as they found the back of the net on a deflected shot by Mark Foster. Lakeland goalkeeper Joe Silverberg appeared to have the initial shot read, but was unable to stop his momentum as the ball trickled into the net. Oshkosh forward Derek Kasten added a goal in the 89th minute to finish the scoring.

Oshkosh fired off 13 shots in the first half, but the Muskies held them to only 5 in the second half. The Muskies attack created some good chances, but could not pull the trigger as they were credited with only 2 shots on goal for the day.

Silverberg was solid in goal for the Muskies with 10 saves to his credit.

The Muskie Men will be back in action Saturday when they tackle North Park College at 3:00pm on the Lakeland College Campus. The men's game is part of a double header in which the Lakeland Women open up at home at 1:00 pm also against North Park.
