Muskies Men's Soccer Slayed By Knights Of St. Norbert
September 21, 2003

Green Bay, WI-On a beautiful day, the Muskies men couldn't find their offense in a 3-1 defeat to St. Norbert College.

Lakeland came out timid in the first half waiting for things to happen on their own instead of initiating play. The Knights struck first in the 19th minute when they sent home a loose ball in front of the net. Again, in the 37th minute the Knights scored, leaving the score at 2-0 going into the second half.

Lakeland decided to step up the pressure, out-shooting the Knights 15-11 in the second half. The St. Norbert keeper made numerous key saves to keep the Muskies out of the net. Dave Meister (Plymouth, IN) took a rocket of a shot on a direct kick that the Knight keeper barely got a foot on, sending it 30 yards in the opposite direction.

The Knights put the game out of reach, scoring their third goal of the match in the 63rd minute. The Muskies still weren't convinced of this as they continued to pressure the Knight's net. Antiseto Rangel (Chicago, IL) struck a beautiful header towards the upper-right corner that the knight keeper tipped over the cross bar.

Finally in the 88th minute Green Bay native Tyler Opichka buried a well struck full volley, sending it over the keepers head off of a Trey Summers assist.

For the game the Muskies out shot the Knights 20-18. Green Bay native and senior goalkeeper Adam Sherwood made six saves, while the Knights keepers were tested for ten saves.

The Muskies will return to action on Sunday, September 28th when they host the Pioneers of UW-Platteville at 3:00 pm.
