MADISON - Melissa Christiansen (Jr.-Valders, Wis.) led the Lakeland College women's volleyball team in kills and digs but it was not enough as Edgewood College defeated the Muskies in three sets in a Northern Athletics Conference match Wednesday night at the Todd Wehr Edgedome.
Christiansen recorded season highs of eight kills and 15 digs, playing all around the court for the first time this season as freshman Caleigh Galvan (New Lenox, Ill.) sat out with an ankle injury, but the Muskies lost to the NAC co-leaders by scores of 25-16, 26-24, 25-19. Edgewood improved to 20-4 overall and 9-1 in conference, while Lakeland is now 14-9 overall and 4-5 in the NAC.
The Muskies fell behind by sizeable deficits in the first and third sets but had their best chance at a win in the second set. Lakeland led 14-8 midway through the set after a kill by Amanda Dillman (Jr.-Sheboygan, Wis.), a pair of Edgewood attack errors and a kill by Christiansen. The Eagles fought back though and led 23-20 when the Muskies scored four straight points to get a set point at 24-23. Lakeland missed its opportunity, though, as two attack errors sandwiched around a service ace gave Edgewood the set win.
Taylor Daus (Sr.-Bay Port, Wis.) added seven kills and Tess Myklebust (Jr.-Wisconsin Dells, Wis.) tied a season high with 12 digs. Brittany Reindl (Jr.-Kenosha, Wis.) finished with 28 assists from the setter position.
Mallory Palmer led Edgewood with 15 kills and Sarah Schuchhardt added 10 kills and just one error in 21 attack attempts, as well as four blocks. Palmer also added 17 digs and Lindsey Swansby finished with 36 assist.
The Muskies have the weekend off and next will face Marian University on Tuesday in another NAC match at 7 p.m. in Fond du Lac. Lakeland defeated Marian in four sets in September in the Ripon College Red Hawk Invitational.
