Brett Kaczmarek (Jr.-Kenosha, Wis.) pounded home 20 kills and the Lakeland College men's volleyball team edged UW-Whitewater in four closely contested sets Wednesday night at Woltzen Gymnasium.
The Muskies defeated the Warhawks 25-18, 25-23, 26-28, 25-23, facing a tough road after a relatively easy first set but improving to 7-5 overall this season. Lakeland also is now 5-2 in the Wisconsin Volleyball Conference, while Whitewater dropped to 3-2 overall and in the WVC.
The Muskies rallied from late deficits in both the second and fourth games. UW-Whitewater led 23-22 in both sets before Lakeland closed both sets out with three straight points, including a kill by Kaczmarek on match point in the fourth set.
Kaczmarek led the Muskies throughout, adding a team-best ten digs and tying teammate Rafal Kokoszka (Jr.-Palos Heights, Ill.) for the team lead with five assisted blocks.
Alec Redlich (So.-Wauwatosa, Wis.) added 14 kills. Dayton Erickson (So.-Trevor, Wis.) led the team in assists with 44.
Lakeland will be home again next Wednesday night when it faces UW-Platteville at 7:30 p.m. at the Woltzen Gym.
