Women's Basketball Pounds Mount Mary; Plays For Fifth Place

The Lakeland Women's Basketball Team had an easy go of it Monday morning with a 109-15 victory over Mount Mary College in the second round of the Clarke College Holiday Tournament. The win moved Lakeland to 7-4 overall and moved them into the fifth place game against Mt. Mercy College on Tuesday at 1:30p.m.

Mount Mary is a new Division III member and has struggled thus far. In the first round of the tournament they lost to Clarke College 112-21. The Lakeland victory is believed to be the largest margin of victory in Muskie history.

The Muskies played every player at least 10 minutes with the exception of three players. Heather Groh led Lakeland with 23 points while Aubri Rote added 18 and Beth Porter chipped in with 13. Groh also led the Muskies with 13 rebounds and Kristi Thill added 7 assists.

Lakeland shot 62.7% from the field (47 of 75) and 15 of 19 from the free throw line while holding Mount Mary to a 6 of 41 effort (14.6%).

Lakeland led 57-8 at the half and outscored Mount Mary 52-7 in the second frame. The Muskies had 54 points on 40 Mount Mary turnovers and had 68 bench points.

UW-Oshkosh Pounds Ripon; Will Play Muskies In Championship

The Lakeland College Muskies will have their work cut out for them Saturday afternoon when they meet UW-Oshkosh in the championship game of the Play with Grace Tip-Off Tournament at Lakeland. The game will be played at 4pm.

Oshkosh, who is currently receiving votes to break into the Top 25, smoked Ripon 87-60 in the late game on Friday following Lakeland's 55-44 victory over Aurora. Aurora and Ripon will meet at 2pm for the consolation game.

The Titans jumped out to a 43-29 halftime lead over Ripon and never looked back as they connected on 9 of 16 three-point attempts. UWO shot 61% overall while holding Ripon to a respectable 42.6% from the floor.

Oshkosh had three players in double figures, led by Kelly O'Keef with 18 points, including a 4 of 4 performance from beyond the arc. Kay Mikolajczak added 14 points and 8 rebounds while Michele Rosicky added 11 points. Janine Emmer led Ripon with 17 points while Martha Dantuma chipped in with 16.
