Lakeland College Women's Soccer Falls to Elmhurst
October 1, 2003
Elmhurst, IL- The Lakeland College Women's Soccer team fell 6-0 to the Blue
Jay's of Elmhurst College in a non-conference match-up today. With the loss,
the Muskies fell to 3-7 while the Blue Jay's improved to 7-2-2.
The Muskies didn't play their best possession soccer in the 1st half on the fast paced turf, but played good team defense holding Elmhurst to just one goal and few quality scoring chances. The Blue Jay's got on the board in the 13th minute as an unmarked Ayana Evans knocked home a dropped-cross to open the scoring for the day. Despite a revived effort late in the first half, the Muskies were unable to truly test the Blue Jay defense and after forty-five minutes of play they found themselves at the bottom of a one goal deficit. The Muskies best chance came on an Amanda Smith breakaway that she pushed wide of the far post.
In the second half the Muskies came out flat and the Blue Jays took full advantage. Five unanswered Blue Jay goals, 3 of which were scored in the last five minutes of the game, summed up the scoring for the second half.
The Muskies hope to turn things around as they open their Lake Michigan Conference play at home on Saturday against an always challenging Wisconsin Lutheran squad. Game time is slated for 1 pm on Muskie field.
