Women's Soccer Continue Lake Michigan Conference Tear
October 18th, 2003

Mequon, WI- The Lakeland College Women's Soccer team defeated their third consecutive Lake Michigan Conference opponent as they beat Concordia University by a score of 3-0 Saturday afternoon in Mequon.

An unseasonably warm autumn day set the stage for the competitive LMC game. Sophomore sweeper Briana Plautz (Green Bay, WI) and junior forward Amanda Smith (Neenah, WI) were a winning combination throughout the afternoon for the Muskies as they scored three goals in the first 45 minutes to seal Concordia's fate.

In the 12th minute Plautz found Smith's forehead off of a beautifully placed corner kick, one of 8 corner kicks on the day for the Muskies. Just eight minutes later, Plautz knocked a through ball to Smith who simply outran the Falcon's defense and found the back of the goal, to make the score 2-0 just 20 minutes into the match. Smith would complete her hat-trick in the 24th minute off a great individual effort that left the Concordia defenders scratching their heads in disbelief.

The second forty-five minutes provided much excitement as a rejuvenated Falcon squad took the field and pressured the Lakeland defense. Despite a commendable effort the Falcons were unable to seriously threaten the Muskie goal and the 3-0 half time lead would prove to be enough as both teams were held scoreless in the second half.

Freshman goalkeeper Alli Weiss (New Berlin, WI) had 12 saves on the day and recorded her 2nd LMC shut in as many matches. With the win the Muskies are now 3-1 in the LMC and 6-9 overall.

The Muskies are back in action tomorrow afternoon when they meet Carroll College in a non-conference affair. Kick-off is slated for 1pm on Muskie field.
