Women's Soccer Extinguishes The Alverno Inferno

The Lakeland College Women's Soccer Team traveled to Milwaukee on Wednesday to battle the Alverno Inferno. Alverno will be joining the Lake Michigan Conference in 2004.
The Muskies peppered the Alverno net with 29 shots,12 of which found the back of the goal, as Lakeland blanked Alverno 12-0. The Muskies defense smothered the Inferno and didn't allow a shot on goal. Lakeland improved to 7-10 overall and remains 3-1 in the LMC. Alverno dropped to 1-16 overall.

Among the highlight filled game was the inspiring play of freshman striker Lorine Weiss (Kenosha, WI). Weiss recorded her first career hat-trick and added two assists in the contest. Freshman Allyce Maus (Green Bay, WI) recorded her first collegiate goal as she sent a bending ball into the lower left hand corner of the Inferno goal. Rookie mid-fielder Tracy Bins (Green Bay, WI) recorded two assists on the day, while first year goalkeeper Alli Weiss (New Berlin, WI) went unchallenged and recorded zero saves.

The Muskie upperclassmen were once again led by sensational junior striker Amanda Smith (Neenah, WI). Smith had 4 goals and an assist on the day taking her season total up to a very respectable 25 goals in 16 games. Senior Meghan Wudtke (Elk Grove Village, IL) added a pair of goals and an assist. Senior Amy Herzfeldt (Appleton, WI) recorded a goal and an assist, as fellow senior Amy Freier (Sheboygan, WI) rounded out the scoring for the Muskies with a goal and two assists.

The Muskies will be in action at home this Saturday, October 25th, 2003. Lakeland welcomes the always competitive Eagles of Edgewood College in a battle for first place in the LMC starting at 1:00 pm.
