Lakeland College Women's Soccer Team Drops Conference
Opener
October 4, 2003
Sheboygan, WI- The Lakeland College Women's Soccer Team dropped its first Lake
Michigan Conference match today against the Warriors of Wisconsin Lutheran by
a score of 3-2.
The Muskies jumped out to an early lead by getting on the score board in the
6th minute. Sophomore sweeper Briana Plautz (Green Bay, WI) notched her 7th
assist of the season as she found the head of senior midfielder Amy Herzfeldt
(Appleton, WI) for Herzfeldt's 8th goal of the season.
Unfortunately the Muskies could not stave off the Warriors as they tied up the game in the 18th minute and took a 2-1 lead in the 30th minute off an unbelievable unassisted goal by Nikki Scholz.
Not to be outdone, senior defender Michelle Schleh (New Holstein, WI) chipped the ball over the Warrior keeper to send the teams into the half at 2-2.
The second half belonged to the Warriors as the Muskies were out-shot 10-2, out-hustled and out-muscled all over the field. Freshman keeper Alli Weiss (New Berlin, WI) faced 16 shots and had 6 saves on the day as the Warrior attack proved too potent for the Muskie back line.
The Muskies hope to return to their winning ways tomorrow as they kick off a non-conference match against the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater at 3pm. The Muskies are now a disappointing 3-8 overall and 0-1 in Lake Michigan Conference play.
