Herzfeldt Nets 4 Goals In Muskies Whitewashing Of UW-Platteville
September 28, 2003

Senior midfielder Amy Herzfeldt (Appleton) followed up her breakout performance of 2 goals and 1 assist on Saturday with a 4 goal barrage today at Muskie field. Herzfeldt was all the scoring the Muskies needed in a 4-0 win for Lakeland over UW-Platteville. Lakeland improved to 3-6 on the season.
Junior forward Amanda Smith (Neenah) created the first goal of the game by drawing a penalty kick in the 11th minute. Herzfeldt calmly stepped up and put the Muskies up 1-0 with a neatly placed penalty. Herzfeldt would head home her 2nd goal off a brilliant corner kick from sophomore back Briana Plautz (Green Bay).

The score would remain 2-0 going into the half despite some great chances provided by Amanda Smith.

The second half would provide two more Plautz-Herzfeldt combinations to seal the win. In the 50th minute, Plautz served in a 40 yard set piece onto a waiting Herzfeldt on the far post who tucked it away for the hat trick. Plautz earned her 3rd assist of the day setting up Herzfeldt for another header goal off a corner kick in the 75th minute to earn the Muskies a 4-0 triumph.

Freshman goalkeeper Allie Weiss (Sheboygan) recorded her first career shutout in goal. The back four of Plautz, Lindsay Olm (Sheboygan), Michelle Schleh (New Holstein), and Allyce Maus (Green Bay) held the Pioneers to just 4 shots for the game.

The Muskie women return to action on the road Wednesday against Elmhurst College at 3:30 p.m.
