Muskies Tennis Falls To Wisconsin Lutheran In tight
Match
Sept. 27, 2003
The Lakeland College Women's Tennis Team fell 5-4 in a tight match versus Wisconsin
Lutheran Saturday afternoon in New Berlin. With the loss, the Muskies moved
to 5-2 overall and 4-1 in the Lake Michigan Conference, to finish in second
place. Lutheran won conference with a 5-0 mark and is currently 7-2 overall.
Lakeland's single victories came from #1 player Hanaka Murakami, who remains undefeated in her career, #3 Heidi Heling of Howards Grove, and #4 player Lisa Hentges. Murakami teamed up with Cody Carlson to win at #1 doubles for Lakeland's lone victory in doubles play.
The four wins the Muskies managed versus Lutheran are more than the combined total scored by the other LMC schools in their matches against Wisconsin Lutheran.
Lakeland has a scrimmage versus Carthage reserves and a match with Lawrence this week before going to the LMC Tournament to defend its title next Sunday in Madison.
"My #1 through #4 players are playing strong tennis," said head coach Mike Devaney. "They give us a good shot at repeating as conference champs."
