Sept. 30, 2003

The Lakeland College Women's Tennis Team fell to Lawrence University 6-3 Tuesday afternoon in Sheboygan in a non-conference match-up. The Muskies concluded the regular season with a 5-3 overall record, while the Vikings improved to 6-5-1.

The Muskies, playing without their full lineup due to illness and schedule conflicts, won three of the seven matches played, but forfeited #3 doubles and #6 singles.

Cody Carlson led the way for the Muskies with a grueling win at #2 singles 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 and an 8-5 win at #1 doubles with Lisa Hentges.

Hanaka Murakami also finished the season in impressive fashion by dominating at #1 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 victory. She finished the season undefeated in singles (8-0) and doubles (7-0), making this the second straight year she has gone unbeaten. Incredibly, Murakami has lost only 11 of 107 games this season.

"Hanaka is simply the best player that I have ever coached and may be the best to ever play in our conference," said head coach Mike Devaney.

Lakeland travels to Nielson Stadium in Madison for the LMC Tournament this weekend. The Muskies finished the regular season in second place with a 4-1 record while Wisconsin Lutheran won the regular season at 5-0.
