Braaksma Named To Academic All-District Team

Melissa Braaksma, a senior middle hitter from Randolph, WI, was named to the District V Academic All-Region team. Braaksma, who also made the team last year and was selected as a 2nd Team Academic All-American, will once again be nominated for the All-American Team. She maintains a 4.0 grade point average with majors in Accounting and Business Administration.

At the time of the vote Braaksma had led Lakeland to a record of 15-11. She had started all 26 matches and had played in 84 games, averaging 3.05 kills, 0.80 digs, 1.45 blocks, 0.04 assists, 0.31 service aces per game with a hitting percentage of .312. Braaksma was ranked in the top 30 nationally for blocking and is currently the school record holder for career blocks and single season blocks.

Also at the time of the vote, Braaksma led the LMC in blocks per game, was 2nd in hitting %, 6th in kills, and 9th in aces. She was also named a 2003 LMC Player of the Week. The Muskies had a 66 game Lake Michigan Conference winning streak (since broken), are the two-time defending LMC champions and participated in the 2002 NCAA Regional.

Braaksma is a Wisconsin Valedictorian Scholar and a President of Fellowship of Christian Athletes...Randolph, WI. The All-American nomination will include all statistics from games prior to this year's NCAA Tournament games.
