MILWAUKEE - Katie Freitag (Jr.-Kiel, Wis.) recorded nine kills to lead a balanced attack and the Lakeland College women's volleyball team swept Northern Athletics Conference foe Alverno College in three sets Wednesday night.
The Muskies improved to 2-0 in the NAC and to 9-3 overall. The win also allowed Lakeland to tie its win total from all of 2011, when the team finished 9-21 overall.
The Muskies received a challenge from Alverno (3-11 overall, 0-2 NAC) but in all three sets held control down the stretch. Lakeland hit .163 for the match with 34 kills to 17 errors, better than the Interno's totals of 30 kills and 20 errors.
Freitag led Lakeland attack, posting just one error for a .364 attack percentage. Anna Faust (Jr.-Cross Plains, Wis.) added seven kills and Caleigh Galvan (Fr.-New Lenox, Ill.) six. Brittany Reindl (Jr.-Kenosha, Wis.) led the Muskies with 28 assists, and Galvan, Reindl and Taylor Daus (Sr.-Bay Port, Wis.) paced Lakeland with eight digs each.
Emma Ortner led Alverno with nine kills, while Raegan Owen added ten digs.
Lakeland steps out of conference play for another tournament this weekend, participating in the Red Hawk Invitational hosted by Ripon College. The Muskies open against the host school Friday at 4 p.m. and will continue with one more game Friday and two more on Saturday.
