Lakeland keeps up pace, wins three of four at Ripon tourney

RIPON - The Lakeland College women's volleyball team posted another solid showing at a tournament this weekend, winning three of four matches at the Ripon College Volleyball Tournament which concluded Saturday.

The Muskies wrapped up the tourney with a pair of wins over Northern Athletics Conference rivals on Saturday. Lakeland defeated Marian University in four very competitive sets (25-23, 28-26, 22-25, 25-23) and then wrapped up the weekend with a 25-21, 25-17, 25-16 victory over Concordia University Chicago.

On Friday the Muskies also opened the invitational with a three set win over Ripon, defeating the Red Hawks 23-25, 26-24, 25-21, 25-21. Lakeland took its lone loss in the tourney in its second match Friday, falling to St. Norbert College in four sets (25-18, 15-25, 25-13, 25-21). With the 3-1 record on the weekend the Muskies improved to 12-4 overall this season.

Katie Freitag (Jr.-Kiel, Wis.) finished with 18 kills to lead the Muskies in the win against Ripon. Taylor Daus (Sr.-Bay Port, Wis.) posted 13 kills and Amanda Dillman (Jr.-Sheboygan, Wis.) added 11 kills. Brittany Reindl (Jr.-Kenosha, Wis.) finished with 51 assists and Anna Faust (Jr.-Cross Plains, Wis.) led the team with 29 digs.

Daus was named to the seven-player all-tournament team, and Lakeland finished with the best record in the tourney of teams competing both days. Statistics are unavailable at this time for the Muskies' final three matches.

Lakeland next will face Wisconsin Lutheran Tuesday night at home in a conference match at 7 p.m.
