- ABOUT LAKELAND

Your placement is based on an audition the first day of camp. Every day you will rehearse for 2 hours.
Wind and percussion players are placed according to strength and ability.
Vocalists are placed in the mixed choir or the treble choir (all girls).
Violin, viola, cello, and bass players work together and finesse groups.
We are the only state camp to offer piano ensemble emphasis.
In addition to their major ensemble, campers receive 1-hour lessons focused on their instrument or voice part. Instructors are professional specialists who play the same instrument or sing the same part. We get high marks from music directors across the state who say this is just the sort of individual attention their students need.
Improvements in reading and writing music enhance a musician's ability to per form. Campers are tested and placed into 1 of 6 levels of theory ranging from beginning to advanced harmony and composition (equivalent to college level).
Regardless of musical focus, singing in the Camp Choir reinforces fundamental musicianship and builds community. Younger and older campers work separately at first then come together in the end, along with faculty and staff, as the 300-voice choir performs the finale at the Closing Ceremony.
Campers choose 2 additional activities studying musical styles, genres, and techniques, along with other facets of per forming arts. Electives give students a change of pace from major ensembles and diversify their musical knowledge. They include:
