Federal Aid

Pell Grant. This need-based federal program selects eligible undergraduate students and determines the grant amount.

Direct Loan. This loan program offers a competitive fixed interest rate.  A student must be enrolled in six or more credits per term to be eligible for federal loans.

  • Subsidized Loans: need based; interest paid by the government while the student is in school; repayment begins six months after leaving college.  This loan program offers a fixed interest rate of 3.4% for loans disbursed July 1, 2011 - June 30, 2012.
  • Unsubsidized Loans: not need based; interest begins accruing immediately and is payable from the date of the first disbursement or may be capitalized; repayment begins six months after leaving college.    This loan program offers a fixed interest rate of 6.8%.

Direct Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students (Plus)The Federal Parent PLUS Loan provides loans to parents of dependent students attending post-secondary schools. All loan funds received under the program must be used to pay for the cost of attending a post-secondary school.

Parents can now apply for instant pre-approval online and complete the Master Promissory Note for the PLUS loan online.  Specific directions are available by clicking here.  If you would like to apply for the Parent PLUS Loan by submitting a paper application rather than applying online, click here for the 2011-2012 paper application.

The Financial Aid Office will be notified of the credit decision.  If the application is approved, the Financial Aid Office will certify the PLUS loan.  If a parent is denied a PLUS loan, the student's financial aid package will be reviewed to determine if there is additional Federal Direct Unsubsidized loan eligibility.  A revised award letter will be completed.
