Malawi is a nation whose people are deeply committed to their faith. Eighty-percent of Malawians are Christian, and
twenty-percent are Muslim.

The first cohort of five Malawi students finished all of their coursework at Lakeland College in May 2002 and returned home to Malawi where each completed a twelve-week-long student teaching practicum. To date, twenty-five Malawi students have received teaching degrees from Lakeland College. All of these are employed as instructors at one of five Teacher Training Colleges (TTC's) in Malawi, are serving as teachers of teachers.

Lakeland students have collected 4 shipments of used text books from school districts in Wisconsin to send to Malawi. Each shipment contains approximately 30,000 pounds of educational materials, or 15 - 25,000 books and several boxes of school supplies.
