Community Service

What is Service Learning?

Service Learning is a teaching and learning strategy that integrates meaningful community service with instruction and reflection to enrich the learning experience, teach civic responsibility, and strengthen communities.

Types of Service:

1. Service to the Community

  • It is defined as unpaid services provided for or through a non-profit organization that helps the organization or the individuals, groups, or community sector that the organization serves. Community service is also defined as helping an individual or family in our community with meeting a specific need even though this opportunity was not identified through a formal organization.

2. Service to Lakeland College

  • It is defined as any voluntary action or selected position (that is not paid as wages or scholarship) taken to specifically benefit the Lakeland College Community.

  1. Resources for Students and Faculty: Our office provides a connection for students and faculty to the Sheboygan community and the non-profit organizations that surround the campus.
  2. Serving as a liaison between Lakeland College and volunteer organizations

Recording Service Hours

It is important to record your service hours during your time at Lakeland College. It allows our office to gauge what kind of service is going on at Lakeland and to give students a broader range of opportunities to serve at Lakeland and in the Sheboygan Community. Many employers look for activities done outside of campus life, and the service you do outside of Lakeland can be a great way to demonstrate your character and skills.

To record service hours you may print out the forms on this site:

Individual Service Timesheet and Group Service Timesheet

Forms are also available outside of the Community Service Office located in the Student Organization Center (SOC) on the Lower Level of the Campus Center. All forms must be turned in to the Community Service Office in order to be verified.
