Sandra Gibbons-Vollbrecht is the Vice President for Student Affairs/Dean of Students. Sandra received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire and a Master of Science Degree in Education from the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse. She served as a Residence Hall Director at the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse, an Area Coordinator in Residence Life at Radford University, in Radford, Virginia, and was the Assistant Director of Student Activities/Residence Hall Director at St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin, prior to coming to Lakeland College in 1988. She is currently a member of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators, the Association of Fraternity Advisors, the Association for Student Judicial Affairs, and the Association of College and University Housing Officers - International.

Sandra looks forward to meeting with and working with as many of our students as possible. It is her goal to help each of our students achieve academic success and to develop to his or her maximum potential. Sandra enjoys living on the Lakeland College campus with her daughter Kelly, her husband Mark and their dog "Jake." When visiting campus, please take a moment to stop in and say "hi." Director of Residence Life: Jim Bajczyk

Jim Bajczyk, the Director of Residence Life, received both his Bachelor's Degree (Sociology) and his Master's Degree (College Student Personnel) from the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse. Prior to his arrival at he Lakeland campus, Jim has served as an Area Coordinator at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa; Assistant Housing Manager at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana; Hall Coordinator at the University of Wisconsin - Madison, Residence Hall Director and Area Coordinator at Washington State University in Pullman, Washington; Assistant Director at the University of Nebraska - Omaha; and Assistant Director of Residence Life at the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon.

A Milwaukee native, Jim returns to Wisconsin and cites his family and the welcoming atmosphere of the Lakeland community as reasons he see himself "planting roots" here for years to come. Jim's genuinely enjoys meeting as many students as possible and is working to create an interactive environment and residence hall governance where all student concerns can be addressed. Director of Student Activities: Talia Proffitt

Talia Proffitt is the Director of Student Activities at Lakeland College. Talia received a Bachelors Degree in Nonprofit Organizational Leadership from Carroll College in Waukesha, WI. She then went on to earn a Masters Degree in Student Affairs Administration in Higher Education from Ball State University in Muncie, IN. In this position, Talia worked with the Activities Board, Service-Learning Office and Orientation. Talia is originally from Union, IL, but is thrilled to return to Wisconsin.

Talia’s passion for student activities has led her to being involved with the National Association of Campus Activities (NACA). As an undergraduate student, this organization recognized Talia as the ‘Outstanding Student at a Four Year College.’ Talia is very excited to return to the small, private college environment because she truly feels this setting best fosters student development and campus involvement. Talia is genuinely energetic and is eager to help students become invested in the Lakeland community. Please stop by her office, Laun 100, (across from the bookstore) to say Hello!

Housing & Campus Center Coordinator: Margaret Teske

Margaret Teske is the Housing & Campus Center Coordinator for the Student Life Office. Her main responsibilities are housing students, staffing and supervising the Campus Center Information Desk, and managing the activities of the Campus Center and the Student Life Office. Margaret would be happy to assist you with a guest room reservation, scheduling an appointment with the counselor, or getting your mail if you’ve forgotten your key. Please call or stop in at the Campus Center to see her if you have any questions. She would be happy to help you.

Margaret has been a member of the Lakeland College community since 1993. She enjoys living on campus with her son, Carson, and their bunny, Sammy.

Sally Bork graduated in 2002 from Lakeland with a degree in Business Administration. She was involved in many activates such as: S.A., I.G.C., Pi Kappa Gamma Sorority, and Volleyball.

After graduation she went home to take care of her grandfather who is suffering from Alzheimer’s. While at home in Florida, she realized how much Lakeland had become like a home to her, and how much she missed it. Now she is back up in beautiful Wisconsin at Lakeland College, with the best job she has ever had. Sally says, "I love the students, faculty, and staff here at Lakeland and am proud to call it home."

 

Ryan Opahle

Ryan Opahle, Residence Hall Director/International Student Mentor

Ryan Opahle is the Residence Hall Director at Grosshuesch Hall & the International Student Mentor on campus. He was born and raised in Racine, Wisconsin before leaving and receiving his Bachelor of Business Administration (Management/Human Resources, Finance, and Economics) degree at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2002. He continued his education at UW-Madison, receiving his Master of Science degree in Educational Administration (with Emphasis on Higher Education and Student Services) in 2004.

While attending UW-Madison, Ryan worked at Princeton House private residence hall as a Resident Assistant for two years and a Programming Associate for four years. During his studies, he also volunteered in the Orientation & New Student Programs office, and completed internships at the UW Office of Human Resource Development, the UW International Student Services Office (BRIDGE International Friendship Program) and the Edgewood College International Student Office. He was also involved with the Alpha Kappa Psi business fraternity and the Society of Human Resource Management.

Ryan is excited about the close-knit campus community provided at Lakeland College and looks forward to eventually meeting every single student on campus. His office is located in Grosshuesch Hall and he welcomes all visitors.

 

Sherry Carstens

Sherry Carstens is Director of the Health Center. She graduated from Lakeshore Technical College and has worked in various health fields from Psychiatric to Pediatrics. She joined the Lakeland staff as a part-time nurse and became full-time in 2005. Her primary duties are to the health needs of the students. She provides basic care and medications for the more common illnesses, and referrals to other health facilities as warranted.

Sherry lives in the area with her husband Roger and has 3 children (Eric , Tara and Andrew), along with their boxer Rocky. Her door is always open and she is willing to talk with students and help when she can. Stop in and say hello!

 

Rhonda Adler

Rhonda Adler, Nurse Practitioner

Rhonda Adler is a Nurse Practioner who joined the Lakeland Health Services staff in 2004. She received her Associate Degree in Nursing from LTC and her Bachelor of Science degree from Marquette University. She went on to get her Masters of Science through Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. She has worked in a variety of setting including Cardiac, Oncology, ICU, and Medical-Surgical over the past 25 years. She has spent the past 12 years working as a Nurse Practitioner in the Air Force and remains in the Air Force Reserves. Her responsibilities on campus are to diagnose, treat and counsel the students with their medical needs. She is on campus two mornings a week.

A native of Howards Grove, Rhonda returned to the area to reconnect with family and friends. She is married and has 2 grown sons. She enjoys spectator sports, motorcycling and quilting/sewing.

 

Cary Knier

Cary Knier, Psy.D., Campus Counselor

Cary Knier, Psy.D. is Lakeland’s campus counselor. She is a licensed psychologist and also works at Lakeshore Mental Health in Sheboygan. Cary is a Lakeland College graduate and earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology here. She also attended the Minnesota School of Professional Psychology in Minneapolis where she earned a Doctorate of Psychology Degree in Clinical Psychology. Cary completed an internship at Mendota Mental Health Institute in Madison and also worked at Catholic Charities in Madison. She has taught psychology courses at both Lakeland and Marian Colleges.

Cary is available to counsel students and staff for a broad range of problems including depression, anxiety, relationships, and school related problems. Her office is in Brotz Hall and her number is 565-1527. She is available Mondays, 9-5; Tuesdays 9-4; Thursdays 9-2. Please call 565-1527 or 565-1523 to schedule an appointment. Walk-ins are also welcome.

Cary enjoys reading, singing, playing the flute, and going for walks with her husband, Tony, and their dog, Benny. Please stop by Brotz Hall to say “Hi” to Cary and her dog Benny.
