Preparing and Orientation
Students should allow 3 months processing time for required travel documentation. Study Abroad program students are responsible for scheduling round-trip air transportation. Lakeland College will provide support and assistance as desired for these processes.
Pre-departure orientation programs will be scheduled for all students.
In-Country Program Support
An orientation program is held at the beginning of each semester to welcome non-Japanese students and provide them with relevant information on life in Tokyo and at Lakeland College Japan
Topics addressed during orientation include:
- Academic requirements
- Communications (phone, e-mail, and post) within Japan and the U.S.
- In-country travel, leisure, and other recreational opportunities
- Tips on shopping and daily life support
- Cultural and language issues
- In-country medical and dental services
- Housing
- In-country transportation
- Personal finances (e.g. currency, banking, use of credit cards, etc.)
- Geographical orientation of Tokyo area and Japan in general.
- Japanese Government law and regulations (e.g. remaining in-status on visa, customs exemptions, applicable national and local taxes, etc.)
- Personal and property safety and security considerations
