Procedures To Become A Non-Sworn Recruit In The Law Enforcement Recruit Academy at Lakeland College

Upcoming Police Recruit Academy will take place May 14 – August 10, 2007.

Cost

Academy $3,395.00

• This cost is all inclusive covering course materials, uniform t-shirts, ammunition, etc.
• This cost does not include nonrefundable $25 application fee and $7.50 background check fee.
• This cost does not include food or on-campus lodging.
• On-campus housing is $300 a month or $900 for the entire academy stay, but slots are limited.
  

In order to apply to the summer Lakeland College/LTC Police Recruit Academy you will need to send in four items. The first three items can be downloaded below:

1. A completed application with a nonrefundable $25 application fee. Please make your check or money order payable to Lakeland College.
2. A completed physician’s assessment form completed by a licensed physician.
3. Completed background check forms. The background check forms will be sent to The Crime Information Bureau through LTC and require a check for $7.50. Please make your check or money order out to LTC.
   (NOTE: you may print extra copies of the background forms for your records)
4. A copy of your college transcripts. The State of Wisconsin requires that recruit academy participants have a minimum of 60 college credits towards any degree.

NOTE: Your completed application should include two checks. One for $25 made out to Lakeland College and one for $7.50 made out to Lakeshore Technical College.

 

Once the four items for your application packet are received, we will schedule an oral interview. This interview is conducted by area law enforcement personnel and you should present yourself as professional as possible. You will be ranked on a possible 50 points and then put on a waiting list based on your score. As positions become available in the Recruit Academy, slots are offered to those on the waiting list starting with the highest score to the lowest. If you score below a 25, you will not be accepted into the academy at this time but can interview again in 6 months. Background checks must be received from The Crime Information Bureau before an interview can be conducted. You are strongly encouraged to complete your application material ASAP.

NOTE: If you graduate from the summer Police Recruit Academy, you will be "certifiable" as a law enforcement officer in the State of Wisconsin for 24 months. If you pass a state exam after this time period you will remain "certifiable" for another 12 months. If you have not been hired onto a law enforcement agency (i.e., certified as a sworn law enforcement officer) after 36 months you would need attend a second police recruit academy.

Payment to Lakeland College for the Summer Police Recruit Academy is due AFTER being accepted and no later than April 5, 2007.

Payment Options: Pay full amount upfront, or pay 10% down upfront ($339.50), and the balance in 3 monthly payments with a finance charge.
