Getting Involved
There are many opportunities to get involved in campus life at Lakeland
College.
Lakeland hosts Family Weekends a couple times each year. On these weekends,
activities are organized to appeal to all ages, and parents and siblings
are encouraged to visit campus. Movies on the big screen, athletic events,
cookouts and special performances by entertainers such as Pat McCurdy
have all been a part of some of Lakeland's Family Weekends in the past.
Contact Student Life for specific information on the next Family Weekend.
Lakeland also hosts alumni and community events locally including networking
opportunities, tailgate parties, the annual Blaster's golf outing and
various alumni banquets. For more information on alumni events, check
out the alumni area of the website.
Lakeland is an active place. With over 20 student organizations and 11
athletic teams, there are a myriad of things to do. The college also hosts
a Fine Arts Series and a Lecture Series, bringing in a number of speakers
and entertainers throughout the year. Check our latest Student Activities
calendar (pdf download) or keep an eye on our interactive online calendar
for more information.
Student Services
Lakeland offers a number of different support services to our students.
The Hayssen Academic Resource center provides free academic tutoring in
many subjects and features a large computer lab for a quiet place to study.
Additionally, assistance is available for students with poor study habits
and test taking anxiety to work through those problems and find solutions.
If you have academic concerns about your son/daughter, feel free to contact
Director Paul White, 920-565-1412 or whitepm@lakeland.edu.
Students at Lakeland College are assisted in finding employment through
the Student Employment Office, part of the Career Development Office.
We offer assistance in finding jobs on and off campus. The average rate
of pay for on campus jobs is $6.00/hr. Most students typically work 8
to 12 hours per week. This still allows ample study time for a full-time
student. Students employed on campus are paid on a monthly basis.
There are many different types of jobs available to Lakeland College students.
The College employs approximately 400 students each school year. Almost
every department on campus has student employees. Student employees
staff the weight room, library, dish room, and business office; students
serve as resident assistants, tutors, athletic team managers, cashiers
and lab assistants. These are just a few of the many jobs available to
students! In conjunction with Lakeland's "Student As Practitioner" Model,
we encourage students to find employment on campus that offers relevant
experience in their academic field. For example, an elementary education
major should consider working at the Learning Tree Academy day care
center, and a computer science major should consider working in the
IT department. If you have specific questions about the student employment
at Lakeland College, please contact Chelsy Cegielski at 920-565-1518
or via e-mail at cegielskicm@lakeland.edu.
One of Lakeland's financial aid counselors is designated as a Student
Financial Counselor. She can answer all of the student's concerns about
paying for college as well as provide advice about managing money and
other financial concerns as a student. Sue Bialk can be reached at 920-565-1258
or bialkse@lakeland.edu.
Questions and concerns about housing can be directed to Margaret Teske,
920-1228 or via e-mail at teskemm@lakeland.edu.
A campus counselor is available to assist students with any personal
problems he/she might encounter while at Lakeland College. Cary Knier
can be reached at 920-565-1527 or via e-mail at knierca@lakeland.
