To help Lakeland College celebrate their 150th Anniversary, Lakeland College Japan hosted the "Alumni Event 2012While Lakeland College was busy celebrating its 150th anniversary on its main campus, colleagues at Lakeland College Japan in Tokyo were joining in the festivities long distance.

LCJ hosted an alumni reunion at its downtown Tokyo campus on June 23. Nearly 60 alumni attended the event, including a member of the first graduating class of 1992.

"The alumni reunion one of the most memorable events in LCJ history," said Alan Brender, associate dean at Lakeland College Japan. "It was a fitting event to coincide with the 150th anniversary celebration at the main campus. We are proud of our many alumni who have gone on to successful careers or further study."

The Tohoko Committee raised more than 30,000 Japanese yen (approximately $375) through raffles and donations during the event for the relief of earthquake victims in the Tohoko region. Coupled with previous donations, LCJ has raised more than 730,000 yen (approximately $9,160) for the relief of earthquake victims. Although the disaster took place more than a year ago, many people are still in need of help, especially schools and school children.

On Friday, LCJ received a special framed commendation letter from the Ministry of Education for the college's contribution to Tohoku relief efforts.
