Lakeland, Concordia reprise rivalry one more time in NAC semifinals

Athletics - posted on 2/19/2013

For the second straight year, Lakeland College and Concordia University Wisconsin will meet in the Northern Athletics Conference Men's Basketball Tournament semifinals, with their latest meeting coming tonight at 7 p.m. at Woltzen Gymnasium.

The No. 1 seed Muskies (21-5 overall) are two wins from their first-ever NAC Tournament title and their first trip to the NCAA Division III Tournament since 2004. Lakeland will have to go through a Concordia (18-8 overall) team first, though, that split two regular season meetings between the teams. The Muskies defeated the Falcons 86-81 at home on Dec. 5, but Concordia came back for a 79-69 win on Jan. 23 in Mequon. The Falcons are seeded fourth in the tourney and finished one game behind Lakeland in the NAC North Division standings.

Lakeland and Concordia met in the NAC semifinals last year in Mequon, with the Muskies pulling off an 85-83 win in overtime. The teams were tied 11 times and swapped the lead 22 times in that game, which followed a pair of close CUW wins in the regular season, including a 70-69 win at Lakeland and a 106-102 double-overtime win at Concordia.

Second-seeded Aurora (Ill.) University hosts No. 3 Dominican (Ill.) University in tonight's other semifinal, to be played in Aurora.

Live audio and video of tonight's game will be available online at http://www.lakeland.edu/muskieslive.
