Alumni, friends enjoy 19th annual Blasters Golf Tournament

A total of 58 Lakeland College graduates, along with many others, competed in the 19th Annual Blasters Golf Tournament at The Bull at Pinehurst Farms in Sheboygan Falls on June 16.
 
The tournament drew over 150 alumni and friends of the college throughout the day including 10 members of the Lakeland College Alumni Association Board of Directors and three of the college's Trustees.
 
The Blasters is the sole fundraiser for the Alumni Legacy Scholarship endowment fund at Lakeland College which offers financial aid and book awards to offspring and relatives of Mission House/Lakeland College alumni. The fund has awarded nearly $50,000 to students over the past 18 years.
 
Corporate sponsors of this year's event were Bella's Custom Design, Carters, Inc. and Snap On Tools.
 
Team PierceThe winner of the Open Division was Team Pierce, which included 1970 graduate Dave Pierce, 1974 graduate Rick Gaumer, Lyle Kraft and Les Mouser.
 
High 5 Sports LLCHigh 5 Sports LLC won the Corporate Division title. The winning team was made up of Mark Distin '75, Emmett Bonamarte and Derek Distin.
 
This year, four students were selected to receive the Alumni Legacy Scholarship. To be eligible for this Legacy Scholarship, students must be an offspring or blood relative of Lakeland alumni, have a minimum 2.5 grade point average and have financial need.
 
This year's winners are:
 
Mallory Gorski, a sophomore who is studying elementary education with a focus in English and math. Her mother, Tammy Gorski, graduated from Lakeland in 1981. Mallory is involved with the Lakeland College Campus Activities Board (LC-CAB) and serves as an admissions tour coordinator.
 
Tracy Bins, a senior majoring in business administration and fitness studies with a minor in sports management. Bins is involved in many organizations on campus including women's soccer, the Student Athletic Advisory Committee, APA, tutoring and Faculty-Student Athletic Board. Her cousin, Adam Sherwood, graduated from Lakeland, making her eligible for this scholarship.
 
Lindsey Puetz, a senior majoring in business and accounting. Her aunt, Kathlene Huber Patten, graduated from Lakeland in 1969. Puetz serves as the Special Events Coordinator of LC-CAB, participates in the VITA Program, and has an internship in Sheboygan at the Triple Play Fun Zone.
 
Tina Schuh, a sophomore majoring in biology and minor in chemistry. Her father, Michael Schuh, and her mother, SueAnn Schuh, both graduated from Lakeland in 1981. Her grandfather, Ken Valleskey, graduated from Lakeland in 1958. She is active in Habitat for Humanity and the ACJA.
 
The Blasters Committee was also able to distribute three book awards to assist the following students purchase text books for the 2006-07 academic year.
 
They are: Erin Helbing, a senior majoring in business management and marketing; Allison Brown, a senior majoring in German and secondary education; Tanya Taylor, a freshman majoring in psychology and sociology.
