"I just wanted to find a job I liked doing because we spend so much of our lives at work." That is what Chris Thousand said when asked about his career aspirations. Maybe that is why he pursued a degree in facilities management and sport studies. Today, Chris serves as the head coach for the LC baseball team, and couldn't enjoy his job any more than he does.

In his nine years at Lakeland, Chris as taken part in some impressive activites. During the inaugural year at the Bull at Pinehurst Farms, he was able to walk with Jack Nicklaus as he golfed at the grand opening. During 2003 Chris, along with Dan Rauwerdink `03, were invited to work at the 2004 Ryder Cup in Detroit. In 2004, Chris had the opportunity to work for the outside operations department for the PGA Championship that was held at Whistling Straits. Chris looks at all of his opportunities in sports and management as amazing experiences that he will never forget.

There are also unforgettable memories that he takes from his time as a student at LC. In 2000, he was part of a flag football team from LC that went to UW-Eau Claire to play in a flag football regional. Chris says, "we went to the tournament with no idea how to play the game or what rules they have, but we ended up beating every team in the regional and advanced to nationals in New Orleans." In 2002, the baseball team went to the College World Series. Reflecting on that experience Chris says, "That was an amazing experience that I wish every athlete could have. You really can't summarize it into words."

Since graduation, Chris has worked his way to the head coaching position. He began as an assistant coach in 2003, and the most recent season marked his first as the head coach. "One of the biggest reasons that I wanted to coach baseball at Lakeland was to give the same experience to other people that I had. Lakeland was such a great influence on me and my family that I want to give some of that back."

Originally, Chris is from Barneveld, WI which is known for the F5 tornado that leveled the town in 1984. Today, Chris and his wife Danielle (Hubert) Thousand `03 live in Sheboygan. They have two daughters: Taylee Nicole, age 2, and Tatum Natalie, 5 months. In his free time, Chris enjoys walking with his family, golfing, playing bean bags, tennis, and fast pitch softball.
