Second Annual Campus Clean-Up Day Success!

Alumni Association - posted on 8/16/2007

Nearly 60 alumni and friends gathered on Saturday, August 11th for Lakeland College's second annual Campus Clean-up Day. Volunteer representation included Trustees, Alumni Association members, staff, faculty, administration, friends, and students. A huge pat on the back goes out to all who volunteered their time and talents!

Dressed in their volunteer t-shirts and energized with coffee, the group divided into teams and tackled their assignments. Thanks to the help of Lakeland's dedicated facilities staff, the clean-up crew took on several projects designed to improve the main campus before the start of the academic year. Though the weather was a bit warm, it didn't slow down our hard working crew.

Included in the projects were: the moving of museum items to their temporary home in Brotz Hall, planting and weeding all over campus, painting of street signs and scoreboard posts, washing down of the Alumni Pavilion, the oiling of metal campus sculptures, and the dusting of trophies in the Wehr center. Lew Apel, Lakeland's Director of Facilities Management, and his staff led groups of volunteers on campus throughout the day.

As the evening approached, alumni and friends gathered for a "Thank You" reception in the Younger Family Campus Center. The feelings of accomplishment and pride were evident at the end of the day. The event was sponsored by Cousin's Subs and Dulmes Decor, both of Sheboygan. Campus Clean-up Day was a huge success, and the Alumni Office is looking forward to next year's event!
