What exactly is that "H '88" in Prof's title? If you have ever visited the Alumni Awards page of our website, you just may know the answer! The "H" means "honorary" and to get one you must be nominated. Honorary alumni are those who are particularly close to the college, hold it dear to their hearts, yet never actually graduated from Lakeland.
Honorary alumni are treated just like alumni in the sense that they receive event invitations, participate in Lakeland festivities, and get to put that class year after their names! In case you have not yet figured it out, the '88 is representative of the year Prof became an honorary alumnus. Examples of other honorary alumni you may know include Dr. Mike Devaney H '07, Rev. David Lauer H '06, Moose and Dona Woltzen H '94, George Schoneman H '87, and Loren Tiede H '85. For a full listing, visit the Alumni Awards webpage.
Of course, you can also nominate actual graduates for awards as well. The Lakeland College Alumni Association is now accepting nominations for a variety of awards including Service to the College, Professional Achievement, Community and/or Civic Service, Outstanding Recent Alumni, and the brand new President's Richard C. Preuhs '65 Award. Surely you know someone who is deserving of one of these awards. For more information on the award criteria, the nomination process, or lists of past winners please visit the Alumni Awards webpage.
Your nominations are critical to the success of the alumni awards program and by making a nomination you are honoring the work of a fellow alumna or alumnus who is very deserving. Reward those who deserve the awards by sending in your nomination today! Nominations will be reviewed and selected by the Lakeland College Alumni Association Board of Directors and awarded to winners at the Homecoming Awards Banquet on Saturday, October 4, 2008.
