- ABOUT LAKELAND

The Lakeland College Theatre Department is working in tandem with Dining Services to launch an exciting new program for alumni and the greater community. On the evening of Saturday, March 27, we will debut our first "Dinner and a Show" event in conjunction with the spring musical, Chicago, which runs from March 25 through March 28 in the Bradley Theatre. Showtimes are at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, with a Sunday matinee at 2:00 p.m.
The Saturday evening dinner will be an elegant affair in the David and Valerie Black Room in the Laun Center. Seating will begin at 5:45, with the play to follow. The menu is still being developed, but given the expertise of the Lakeland College chefs, the meal is sure to be a winner.
The combined cost for dinner and the show is $40 per person. During dinner, you can expect a few cast members to drop by for a song or two and don't be surprised if the show's director, Charlie Krebs, the college's assistant professor of theatre, also makes an appearance.
The show is currently in rehearsal and Krebs is enthusiastic about how things are coming together. "We wanted to do Chicago because it is a show with lots of good roles for women and we have very talented women right now in our music department. We also wanted to do something really hot, and this show is just great in that regard."
Krebs is enthusiastic about the set for Lakeland's production, which he describes as "glossy, glossy, with lots of black and silver." There are also some surprises planned that include an elaborate lighting design. The set features a large constructed birthday cake in the middle of the stage to hold the orchestra on its first tier, with a lot of the dancing on the upper tier. Professor Janet L. Herrick is the musical director and adjunct Jessica Mueller is the choreographer. Lakeland's director of bands, Russell Pettitt, makes his debut as the orchestral director.
"Our goal," says Krebs, "is to really show the greater community that Lakeland Theatre has turned a corner here. We want to get more people out to the college for an evening of great entertainment, realizing that we have some extremely talented students in our midst." The cast stars April Wassmer, Clarissa Dimel, Aaron Kraemer, Whitney Diedrich, Katelyn Gussert, Michelle Traynor, Brittany Wierzbach, Cassie Schira, Emily Rendall-Araujo, Cody Linder, Kati Jendraszak, and David Neese. There is a large chorus as well, with the cast totaling 34 people. Lakeland alumna Kit Botana '86 is in the chorus, along with her daughter, KayAnn Botana, who is currently enrolled at Lakeland.
Seating is limited at the dinner. Contact Deb Fale at 920-565-1536 to purchase your tickets for the dinner and show. If you are only buying tickets for the play, the cost is $15 per person.
