The Lakeland Muskies traveled to Elmhurst, Ill., to play in a tough tournament this weekend. Lakeland left disappointed as they dropped all four matches. On Friday night the Muskies dropped a 3-0 decision to UW-Platteville. In the second match of the night against Carthage College the Muskies lost 3-1. On Saturday, Lakeland once again played two matches and dropped the match against Eastern 3-1 and Wheaton College 3-0.
The Muskies dropped their match against UW-Platteville in three straight sets by scores of 30-21, 30-28 and 30-20. Sophomore Ashley Domask led the team defensively with nine digs, while senior Heather Heberlein recorded eight kills.
Later in the evening the Muskies played Carthage. After dropping the first two games 30-18 and 30-17, the Muskies fought back in the third game to net a 30-24 victory. In the fourth game Carthage was able to secure the victory with a 30-24 decision. Once again Heberlein led the team in kills with 13. On the defensive side of the net senior Sarah Buechel tallied 15 digs, while Domask recorded 14.
Day two of the Elmhurst tournament got off to a good start has Lakeland won their first game against Eastern, 30-24. However, that would be the last game the Muskies would win in the tournament as Eastern came back to win in three closely fought games, 30-27, 30-20 and 30-27. Domask starred both offensively and defensively for Lakeland as she registered 16 kills and tied Buechel in digs with 15.
The final event of the tournament saw the Muskies drop the match to Wheaton 30-27, 30-23 and 30-21.Heberlein led the Muskies in kills with 12, while Buechel tallied 11 digs.
The Muskies will be back in action on Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. against LMC opponent Wisconsin Lutheran. The Muskies have reeled off nine straight conference victories and look to remain in second place as the regular season nears completion.
