Led by Renee Steinert’s 24 points, the Lakeland women’s basketball staged a comeback in Saturday’s Lake Michigan Conference opener against Marian to win in dramatic fashion, 59-53.
Lakeland, who never led until Steinert made a layup at the 4:36 mark in the second half, was down by as many as 14 just nine minutes earlier.
Steinert’s 24 points and 9 rebounds were both game highs. Kristi Thill, who hit 7 free throws down the stretch for the Muskies, finished with 12 points.
Chelsea Borgrud matched Steinert with 24 points on 11 of 19 shooting for the Sabres.
Lakeland shot 54 percent from the floor in the second half, compare to just 22 percent in the first half.
The Muskies continue conference play when they travel to Mequon to face Concordia on Tuesday. Tip-off for that game is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
