The women's soccer team improved to 5-2-1 in conference, blanking Northern Athletics Conference opponent Rockford College 9-0 at home on Saturday, Oct. 14.
It seemed fitting that each of Lakeland's six seniors scored at least one goal to cap off their Senior Day celebrations, with the exception of goalkeeper Alli Weiss and the injured Tracy Bins.
The Muskies enjoyed balanced scoring with goals coming from multiple players in a controlled offensive attack that proved too much for the Regents to handle, as the home team pounded the defense with 17 shot attempts for the game, 12 of which were on goal.
Senior forward Nellie Weiss recorded her second hat trick on the season with three goals, the first of which she knocked in only 30 seconds into the game. Senior forward Ann Lehecka also provided the Muskies with a big offensive boost, tallying four assists and a goal of her own in the 62nd minute. Seniors Nikki Boeckh and Allyce Maus put away their first goals of the year in the second half, and junior midfielder Laura Engel, freshman forward Gina Weiss and sophomore forward Amy Christenson also had goals for Lakeland.
Alli Weiss was credited with another shutout and added four saves in the Muskies' victory.
The squad returns to the field for another NAC home match on Tuesday, Oct. 17, against Aurora University, who is currently undefeated in conference. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
