The Lakeland baseball team moved back to .500 in the Lake Michigan Conference on Saturday as they slugged 20 runs to sweep a doubleheader over Marantha Baptist, 10-6 and 10-3.

Senior Matt Andrews blasted a three-run home run in the first inning of Game 1, and junior Mitch Heinemeyer added his conference leading 13th double of the season for Lakeland (9-16, 6-6 in the LMC).

Junior Zach Schmitz pitched all seven innings, striking out eight Crusader batters for his first victory of the season.

In the second game, Maranatha pitchers accounted for eight hit batsmen, two shy of tying the NCAA Division III record. Freshman Jordan Taylor was hit three times. He also added a two-run double in the seventh.

Freshman Shawn Loch was plunked twice on his way to setting Lakeland baseball's single season record for times hit by pitch with nine.

Junior Tyler Starbird and freshman Tony DeMuth each went 2-for-4 with three RBIs in the second game.

Junior Chris Daun pitched five strong innings, giving up only three hits to get his first win of 2006.

The Muskies will be on the road for their next game on Monday, April 17 when they face UW-LaCrosse. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
