Athletics - posted on 4/20/2006
The Lakeland softball extended its winning streak to three games with a 5-2 win over Wisconsin Lutheran in Game 1 of the team's doubleheader but couldn't overcome a six-run deficit in Game 2 to fall 7-3.
The Muskies were hitless in Game 1 until the fifth inning, when they broke through in a big way, getting five runs on three hits in the inning. Senior Valerie Barlett and sophomore Kourtney Peters both had two-run singles.
Sophomore Rachel Griesbach was stellar on the rubber in Game 1, as she gave up just one earned run on six hits in the complete game to improve her record to 7-3.
In Game 2, WLC pitcher Michelle Shambeau silenced the Lakeland bats, giving up no earned runs on five hits. She also struck out six in the complete game effort.
Lakeland, who is now 11-17 overall and 6-4 in the LMC, plays next on Sunday at home against MSOE. Game 1 is scheduled for 1 p.m.
