Muskies fall prey to Eagles
Athletics - posted on 10/4/2006
Lakeland College women's tennis dropped a 9-0 decision to Edgewood in Howards Grove on Wednesday.
Although the Muskies lost, they held their own against the Eagles. Lakeland number one doubles, freshman Lindsay Crum and senior Lisa Hentges fell to the Eagles Chelsea Van Hefty and Hannah Pincsak 8-3. The sixth game found the Lakeland pair at deuce countless times. Unfortunately, when the tie was finally broken, it broke in Edgewood's favor and Lakeland was unable to recover.
Number two seeded doubles sophomore Brittani Kazik and freshman Cortni Jablenski hung with their Edgewood opponents Katie Schneider and Monica Karl early, but the Edgewood duo were able to break away after the fifth game to come up with a 8-2 victory.
The Muskies will be in action again this weekend at the Northern Athletics Conference Championship hosted by Edgewood College at Nielsen Tennis Stadium Stadium. Play begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday and continues at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
