Women's tennis falls to Lawrence

The Lakeland College Women's Tennis Team fell to Lawrence University 0-9 in non-conference action Friday night in Appleton .

In Muskies' singles play, Lisa Hentges, the number one seed, fell 0-6, 2-6, and number two seeded Lindsay Crum, making her college debut, lost 0-6, 0-6. Number three singles seed Cortni Jablenski, also playing in her first collegiate match, was defeated 0-6, 0-6. The number three seed, veteran Schuchart fell in her match 0-6, 0-6, while Brittani Kazik also went down as the number five seed, 1-6, 0-6. Number six seeded native Jennifer Huang was also knocked off 1-6, 1-6.

On the doubles side, number one seeded doubles duo of Hentges and Crum fell 1-8; number two seeded Kazik and Jablenski dropped their match 0-8; and number three doubles Huang and Schuchart were bounced out 1-8.

"It was a great indication for us of how we're at right now," said head coach Ben Oestreich. "The girls returned serves well, but need to work on consistency in serving and volleying at the net. The longer they played, the better tennis they played. So we'll just need to work on starting out that strong."

Lakeland will be action again on Wednesday in their first home match as they face non-conference foe Ripon at 3:30 p.m..
