The Lakeland Muskies dropped to 3-4 overall with an 89-71 loss to Wabash College at the 31st annual Goaltenders-Bankers Classic Tournament hosted by Franklin College in Franklin, Ind., on Friday night.
Lakeland jumped out to an early 13-0 lead and held a 38-30 lead going into the second half. Wabash then came out with vengeance in the second half and slowly wore down the Muskies, finally taking control with about 10 minutes left to tie up the game. The Little Giants took the lead for good with 9:15 left and led by as many as 20 points en route to the victory.
Turnovers once again plagued Lakeland. The Muskies finished with 16 turnovers, seven of them coming in the second half, compared to just two turnovers in the second half by the Little Giants.
Sophomore Matt Rogers paced the Muskies with 15 points and eight rebounds. Junior Danny Ehnert also scored in the double digits for the Muskies with 10 points, while junior Aaron Regal had a season high eight assists. For the Little Giants junior Andrew Zimmer was the leading scorer with 31 points and 12 rebounds. The Muskies were 31-63 from the field and 20-33 from the free throw line in the loss.
Lakeland will face Alma College in the consolation match tomorrow at noon Central Standard Time.
