Muskies Fall to Sabres 71-66, in Overtime Heartbreaker

The Lakeland men's basketball squad fell to Northern Athletics Conference foe Marian 71-66 in overtime on Saturday night in Fond du Lac.

Lakeland (8-7, 6-3 NAC) led by as many as 12 points and went into the second half with a 31-27 advantage over the Sabres (8-8, 4-4 NAC).

A minute into the second half the Sabres tied the game up and then went on a 9-0 run, taking a five point lead. The Muskies then went on a 10-3 run to cut the lead to three and sophomore Matt Rogers tied the game up with just 2:09 remaining on a three-point play. The Sabres Jordan Van Ess took the lead back for Marian with just 1:46 to play when he hit two free throws. The Muskies Aaron Regal hit a jumper to put the Muskies ahead 61-60. Titus Redmond hit a lay-up to give the Sabres back the lead at 62-61. Senior Tyrone Coleman hit one of two free throws with 36 seconds left to tie the game up 62-62.  The game was sent into overtime when Marian's three-pointer with just three seconds left was no good.

In overtime, Coleman scored first to give the Muskies a 64-62 advantage, however the Sabres scored the next seven points to seal the win.

Rogers led the Muskies with 25 points and five rebounds, while junior Kris Saiberlich scored 11. Junior Danny Ehnert grabbed five boards on the evening.

The Muskies shot 43 percent from the field for the game, but struggled hanging onto the ball, ending the game with 24 turnovers.

The Muskies will be in action again on Wednesday, Jan. 24 at 7 p.m. at Aurora University in another NAC match-up.
