The women's volleyball team (12-12) had a tough first day at the Southwestern Tournament in Georgetown, Texas, dropping both of their matches.
Although the Muskies managed to take a game in each match, the team was downed first by Southwestern University, ranked nineth in the nation, 1-3 (12-30, 30-23, 17-30 and 10-30).
In their second match of the day against 21st-ranked Ohio Northern, Lakeland fought for a victory in game one, 36-34. However, the Muskies' offense stalled out during the remaining games as they were held to scores of 19-30 and 14-30 in games two and three, and dropped game four 27-30 for the 1-3 match loss.
Lakeland will be continue match action at the Southwestern Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 14, facing off with Hardin-Simmons at 12 p.m. and Washington & Lee at 2:30 p.m.
