In the first three games of the season, the Lakeland baseball team only scored four runs.
In their only game on Tuesday, they tripled that.
Led by sophomore Alex Grant's, three RBI day, the struggling offense busted out the bats against the University of Minnesota-Morris in a 12-8 win.
Seniors Mitch Heinemeyer and Brett Nelson added two RBIs apiece, and the Muskies (1-3) stole a total of eight bases as the offense picked up a rough first career start by freshman Lee Chepil.
Chepil gave up five runs on four hits in just 1.1 innings pitched, and Lakeland was down 5-2 after the second inning.
The Muskies pulled within one in the third after Adam Hablewitz scored on a wild pitch and Heinemeyer scored on a sacrifice fly by Brett Anschutz.
In the fifth, the Muskies finally pulled ahead after a two-run single by Grant, and then extended their lead to 8-5 after two errors by the Cougars.
Mike Phillips cruised four innings after replacing Chepil, but ran into trouble in the seventh, allowing three runs to cross the plate and tie the game.
Dan Rhodes entered to replace Phillips, and with a runner on third, retired the final batter of the inning on a strikeout.
Lakeland answered with four runs in the top of the eighth, and Rhodes rolled through the final six batters to pick up the win.
The victory was head coach Chris Thousand's first career coaching win.
Lakeland hopes to now added to that total as their spring trip with a doubleheader against Nichols at 9 a.m. tomorrow.
