Men's Volleyball Takes First Match of Season

Athletics - posted on 1/25/2007

The Lakeland College men's volleyball team started out their season on the right foot, garnering their first Wisconsin Volleyball Conference win of the year with a 3-0 sweep of UW-Whitewater (30-22, 30-20, 30-22) on Thursday, Jan. 25, in Whitewater, Wis.

Senior middle hitter Adam Plach led the Muskies with 13 kills, hitting 63 percent, while also picking up seven digs and three blocks. Junior middle hitter Jared Rohland also began the season with a solid effort, contributing nine kills, five blocks and two aces, while sophomore setter Matt Clemens racked up 43 assists and seven digs.

"I told the guys that while they played well, they played a little overconfident," said head coach Chad Schreiber. "They need to compete with the team across the net a little more.  Whitewater did not give us a lot of different looks, but we never really turned back their attack and seized momentum.  Our serving lacked a lot of focus and is probably my first concern though at this point."

Lakeland will continue match play this weekend at home with a pair of WVC matches. The Muskies will face UW-La Crosse on Saturday at 1 p.m. and will play UW-Stout on Sunday at 1 p.m.
